McCain Donor Accused Of Fleecing Taxpayers

A major John McCain fundraiser who serves as finance chairman of the Florida Republican party has been accused of making hundreds of millions of dollars in profits by vastly overcharging the Pentagon for fuel deliveries in Iraq.

A House investigative committee, led by California Democrat Henry Waxman, has found that perhaps the Republican donor (Harry Sargeant) used his political contacts to secure several lucrative government fuel contracts even though his firm (International Oil Trading Company) was not the lowest bidder.

In all, the Pentagon paid Sargeant"s company $1.4 billion for four separate fuel delivery contracts and the firm reportedly made a profit of $210 million after expenses. Representative Waxman calculated that U.S. taxpayers would have saved about $180 million if the lowest bidder had been awarded the deals.

Waxman details the claims of impropriety by Sargeant"s company in a lengthy letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. There is no indication that McCain or his staff tried to influence the granting of the contracts, but the Arizona senator"s ties to Sargeant certainly raise some concern.

Sargeant has raised more than half a million dollars for McCain"s presidential campaign, has donated thousands of his own money and hosted a fundraiser for the senator this year at his Delray Beach Florida mansion. In August McCain returned $50,000 bundled by Sargeant, a college buddy and close friend of Florida Governor Charlie Crist, because the money was obtained illegally to skirt contribution limits.

Palin, who abused her own power as governor, says McCain will end ‘abuses of power’ in Washington

Well isn't that rich? Anyone else notice the GOP ticket's other historic first? First ticket in history with BOTH candidates previously guilty of ethics violations. How mavericky.

On Saturday, one day after Gov. Sarah Palin was cited by an official state investigation for unethically and unlawfully abusing her power, Sen. John McCain said he would end “abuses [of power]” in Washington as More..president. In another bout of irony, Palin today echoed McCain:

See as a senator, John has confronted the corrupt ways of Washington. And the wasteful spending. And the abuses of power. As president, he’s going to end those once and for all.

And from the Troopergate report:

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 2952.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act

The Daily Flip: 'I never said I dont know much about economics' - McCain

Huh. Really? That's not what it says here:

Take, for example, John McCains admission that economics isnt his thing. The issue of economics is not something Ive understood as well as I should, he says. Ive got Greenspans book.

His self-deprecating humor is attractive, as always. But shouldnt we worry about a candidate whos so out of touch that he regards Mr. Bubble, the man who refused to regulate subprime lending and assured us that there was at most some froth in the housing market, as a source of sage advice?

Huckabee complains about AIR TIME after debate

Huckle said he only recieved 12 minutes of air time at last nights debate and Romney received 21 minutes. Well I know Paul was allowed 6 interupted minutes. That leaves another 15-20 minutes for McCain.

Unfair? For who? Same old tricks and petty squablles. The only person with a solution for the economy was virtual silenced. Now you have Hucky crying about mistreatment. Hey im being hard because look at Paul, Gravel, Kucinich. Ok Gravel didnt have much support but neither did Thompson.
