Congress Aims High : H.R. 45 Hopefully They miss wide

Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL) filed a comprehensive anti-gun wish-list bill in the 111th Congress on its first day in session. No sooner were the new members of Congress sworn in than Mr. Rush, a former Black Panther leader, file his bill which he calls the "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009". The bill has no cosponsors and was automatically referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

If passed, this bill would require that anyone wishing to purchase, own, or possess a "qualifying firearm" - that's any handgun, and any long gun capable of accepting a detachable magazine - would have to be licensed by the state or the federal government in a licensing program managed by the Attorney General. To get a license you would have to prove you're you, provide a passport-style photo, a thumbprint, and take a written exam which includes questions about firearms safety, safe storage, the risks of firearms ownership, and anything else the Attorney General deems appropriate. All transfers would be required to go through a licensed dealer with the exception of occasional gifts or bequests between parents, children (18 or over), and grandparents, or loans of not more than 30 days between "persons who are personally known to one another." (It actually says that. I'm not making this up.) And all transfers would have to be recorded in a "Transfer Record" established and maintained by the Attorney General.
The bill also makes it a crime for a dealer to have shoddy records or fail to appropriately cooperate with any inspectors. It makes failure to report the loss or theft of a firearm within 72 hours a felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison. Failure to keep a firearm locked up in such a way as to keep it inaccessible to anyone under 18 becomes a federal felony too.

Tehran Opts for 'Moral Support' in Gaza War

Excerpt: Although the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush and Israeli leaders have depicted the ongoing crisis in Gaza as part of a larger struggle against Iran and its "proxies," Tehran's involvement with the Palestinians is rather limited.

While American media regularly cover up Israeli actions, those of us who have visited the region first-hand witness a level of US-funded Israeli cruelty that makes us weep for our victims and fear for our country. While most Americans are uninformed on how Israel uses our money, people throughout the world are deeply aware that it is Americans who are funding Israeli crimes. Perhaps It's time to kick AIPAC out of the US and tell Israel they are on their own.

Russian Analyst Predicts Decline and Breakup of USA

This is a flash item from the Drudge Report. Sometimes these pages disappear, so I've taken the liberty of copying the entire text below:

Drudge Report | Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET
Russian Analyst Predicts Decline and Breakup of USA

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

End The Fed Rally Updates from Around the Country

It was a cold one in Boston! The wind chill put the temperature into the single digits, but we had a great turnout, with people coming and going all day. I'd say it was around 300 people total, with a max 150 of us together on the street in the early afternoon.

The Ron Paul Presidential campaign has gone from a towering inferno to white hot coals, focused on bringing this country back to its roots.

Video from Boston and another pic below. Post the update from your city in the comments section.

Ron Paul has a bipartisan plan for Social Security

Ron Paul is like the smart kid in the class the teacher no longer likes to call upon to give answers because he’s right most of the time. In the case of solving the Social Security problem Ron Paul has a solution that both Democrats and Republicans could love. If only they’d pay attention to the man.

Yesterday, the trustees for Social Security and Medicare released a report saying that both will be completely depleted by 2041 and 2019 respectively. The “oxy-moronic” thing about this is that these programs are deemed “trust funds” in the first place. There’s certainly no trust in a fund that is slated to eventually be wiped out.

Throughout his campaign Ron Paul has repeatedly outlined a solution to the problem that gives both the Democrats and Republicans reason to smile. Paul proposes to utilize some of the massive amounts of money saved by switching to a non-intervention foreign policy to help those people currently dependent until the programs can be phased out over a long period of time. He would let the younger people immediately opt out of the program. The approach is a sensible and gradual approach.

Democrats want nothing more than for us to be out of Iraq. This plan takes care of that. Republicans want to phase out Social Security and other welfare programs due to their burden on the economy. This plan takes care of that.

One question is are the Democrats willing to make the hard compromise of allowing the Republicans to get their way with the phase out so we can bring our troops home from Iraq? The other question is, will the Republicans agree to declare victory in Iraq and bring our troops home in return for getting their wish to phase out these welfare programs? The answer to both questions is likely an emphatic “no”, unfortunately.

What this debate ultimately illustrates is the complete disregard from both sides for doing the right thing for the American people. Instead they prefer to swing their red and blue swords at each other quenching their incessant thirst for the political upper hand. For them it is about winning, not what is right.

Ron Paul gets criticized by many for being too principled and stuck in his ways. How ironic it is then that he has shown both parties the light of compromise at the end of the Social Security tunnel. If only they would interrupt their political gamesmanship and listen to the man.

Paul rocks the crowd

The small statured humbled speaking man with a message, talked his devout followers in Boca Raton, florida. The Florida primary is in his way to the white house.

The Paul supporters I talked to are ready to set fire to it otherwise. Theyll wait for the commander to throw the first blow and get on the offensive. Dr. Paul has to start throwing boms and go on the attack. The current selected group of front runners have no credibility or soul.

Get a spine Paul and speak the truth loud and firm. Im not attacking his courage but he shouldnt allow them on the same stage on the debate, there simply not on his level.

Look at how much attention Obama and Clinton received for there petty jabs about nothing. If the next night the same thing happen with real issues people might learn.
